Era: Late 1950s-Over 70years old! Material: 100% Rayon Gabardine (Heavyweight & Breathable)? Design: Bold floral chain-stitch embroidery on chest yokes.
This isn't just flat embroidery. This is felt appliqué outlined with chain-stitching.
The large black shapes are pieces of felt sewn onto the rayon. The "barbs" or "thorns" coming off the edges are hand-guided chain stitches.
This specific motif-a stylized floral or leaf design with those aggressive, thorny accents-is very Rockabilly. It leans into the Nudie Cohn aesthetic of the era (the famous tailor who dressed Elvis and Johnny Cash). The stiches inside the right chest seems to be missing compare to the left side. Either way this fearure makes this shirt one of a kind piece. Contrast black piping on yokes and cuffs.
Cuffs: Five pearl snap "Shotgun" cuffs for a dramatic, tailored look. The close-up of the snaps shows high-dome Mother-of-Pearl snaps with silver-tone rims which are in incredible shape, still bright and iridescent. This garment is in Good Vintage Condition. It has been well-preserved with the embroidery remaining crisp and all snaps functioning perfectly. Note: There is some visible age-appropriate soiling/darkening on the edges of the cuffs and 2 faint stains on the the right sleeve (see macro photos for details). Care: Professionally Dry Clean Only. Professional dry cleaning is done Feb 2026 but couldn't get those stains removed.
