Antique 1940s Southwest Grand Canyon Arizona Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting
This is a magnificent and fine Antique 1940s Southwest Grand Canyon Arizona Plein Air Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, depicting the "Castle Rocks" area of the Grand Canyon National Park, in Arizona. This large and mansion sized painting is approximately 36 1/2 x 55 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 30 x 49 3/4 inches. Delicate shades of pale pinks and blues highlight the sky above, while finely rendered hoodoo rock formations, sloping hills and stoic natural beauty commands the attention of the viewer. In the foreground, various trees flank the image, along with an old dirt trail in the center of the scene. In the distance along this trail, the silhouettes of two figures are visible. In the lower right corner. Additionally, this artwork is titled on the verso: Castle Rocks - Grand Canyon Col.
I presume that this refers to a location along the Colorado and Arizona borders of the Grand Canyon National Park. This piece likely dates to the 1940's, based on the age of the canvas and frame.
Very good condition for age and size, with some mild scuffing, gilding loss, and scratches to the original period ornate gilded wood frame. I was told this painting originally came out of an old and affluent manorial home in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Due to the large size of this piece, S&H costs will be unavoidably high. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
