1930s Silk Western Pullover Shirt with Talon 1/4 Zip - Rare All-White Design. This 1930s Western-style pullover shirt is made of silk and features an original Talon 1/4 zipper. The all-white design is uncommon and was likely intended for formal or special occasions. This shirt was discovered in a barn located between Chico and Durham, California. The barn dates to the 1860s-1880s and is believed to have originally belonged to Mr.

According to family accounts, the structure was moved in the early 20th century and later became part of the Greene-Maggi family property. The land was used for early kiwi farming-Chico is recognized as the birthplace of kiwi cultivation in the United States.

Their property was in fact home to one of the first ever Kiwi Farms in the U. The birthplace of high value fruit cultivation in California may have been birthed in that very barn. Based on measurements, it is possible the shirt belonged to Charles Greene-Maggi, whose World War II Navy uniforms were also found in the same location. Charles Greene-Maggi would have been a teenager at the time of this garments construction pre WWII. Zippers were rising in popularity in the 1920s and 1930s and were preferred by the younger generation over standard button closures, further suggesting this garment was hand tailored for a young Mr.

Additional artifacts from the site suggest connections to the Bidwell family, founders of Chico. And Maggi families were friends with the Bidwell and all apart of the same clubs including the Free Masons. Other artifacts unfortunately, thrown away by the family, may have provided more insight as to how these clubs played a role in agricultural history. The shirt is in good condition for its age and suitable for display or careful wear.

The silk fabric remains intact, and the original Talon zipper is fully functional. Please refer to the photos for close-up details. Additional images and information are available upon request.
